When the car alternator is operating normally, an alternating voltage of 13 to 18 volts is generated to supply energy to the electronics and electronic systems while charging the battery. However, if the AC voltage is less than 13 volts, the alternator will not be able to keep the battery charged. Follow the steps below to save your money by replacing the alternator yourself.
step
1.Disconnect the battery cable.
2.Find the alternator on the vehicle.
3.Use a serpentine belt tool to loosen the belt and then remove it from the alternator's pulley.
4.Put the bolts supporting the alternator back to the original place. The number of bolts is at least 2 and no more than 4. The specifications depend on different brands and models.
5.Use sockets and ratchets to loosen and remove the bolts.
6.Remove the alternator, then unplug and remove all nuts that connect the electrical components.
7.Move the alternator off the engine and take it to the retail store for a new one or a new one.
8.In the retail store, check the new generator and compare it with the old one to make sure the voltage calibrator matches the pulley. If they don't match, you can ask the component dealer to assemble the old pulley on the new generator.
9.The opposite process is to install a new alternator.
10.Connect the electrical plug and wires on the new alternator.
11.Once the alternator slides into place, it begins to install the old bolts in the correct position.
12.Return the generator pulley to its original position and secure it. Be sure to check that the pulley is aligned with the belt tensioner.
13.Use a serpentine belt tool to control the required tightness and slide the belt back onto the pulley, which in turn releases the tool through the tension of the belt.
14.Reconnect the battery cable.
15.Start the car and make sure the alternator is charging.
hint
Take a picture of the moving place with a digital camera. This will record where each part has been changed and it will be easy to find the original position of each part when reassembled.
When returning the serpentine belt tensioner, you can ask if the parts dealer can help detect if the new generator voltage output is normal. Most merchants will be happy to help you for free. The voltage is at least 13 volts.
Many auto parts merchants are willing to borrow snake-shaped belt tools, but a small deposit is required.
If it is difficult to find a serpentine belt tensioner, a toothed belt in the engine compartment can be used.
caveat
In order to prevent electrical system short circuits and electronic products from being damaged, be sure to disconnect the battery cable when working on any electronic components. * Avoid burns and make sure the engine is cool before working.
When installing a new alternator with old screws, do not tighten too tightly before all the screws are installed.
